Ryali is a village in Atreyapuram mandal of the Amalapuram revenue division. The temple is one reason Ryali is a tourist spot. Legend says Vishnu came to the rescue of the gods in the guise of Mohini during a quarrel with the demons over nectar. Vishnu is shown with the Mohini form on the back of the one idol.
Legend says a king hunting here dreamt that the shrine lay underground. He found the idol at the place where a chariot nail fell.
King Vikrama Deva is said to have built a small temple here in the 11th century, and worship was arranged during his reign. The temple's enclosures were developed and the temple was renovated in 1936. The Shiva and Vishnu temples face each other, a feature described as very rare.
