Why devotees come here
The Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas, New Delhi, is a modern temple built by the Odia community of Delhi. It is run by Sree Neelachala Seva Sangha, and it is known for its annual Rath Yatra, which draws thousands of devotees.
Legend says an image of Jagannath, given by poor people of Banapur, was worshipped alongside Mausi Maa before the main shrine was built. The image was worshipped with Mausi Maa until the main temple on the first floor was built.
The Sree Neelachala Seva Sangha, a non-profit organisation, was founded in 1967 on Akshya Tritya. The ground floor took five years to complete, and in 1971, the year the first floor was completed, worship of Mausi Maa began there. The main temple of Jagannath and its deities were installed in 1978.
The temple has two storeys. Mausi Maa is on the ground floor, and Jagannath in his quartet form is on the first floor. The east-facing building was constructed and designed by the Pradhan and Uppal Ghose Company, which the site credits for the architecture.
