Why devotees come here
Kaila Devi Temple stands in Kailadevi village, Karauli district, Rajasthan, on the banks of the Kalisil River in the Aravali hills. Devotees worship Maa Kaila Devi as a form of Adi Shakti Yogmaya. The temple is considered one of the nine Shakti Peethas.
Kaila Devi is considered one of the nine Shakti Peethas. The Skanda Purana is said to record that she would be called Kaila in the Kali Yuga and worshipped as Kaileshwari. Legend says a yogi's bullock stopped in the middle of a forest hill and refused to move, and the idol was installed on that spot.
It is believed the idol came to the Karauli forests around the 11th century. Maharaja Gopal Singh Ji laid the foundation in 1723, and the work was completed in 1730. In 1947 Maharaja Ganesh Pal Ji had the interior and exterior refurbished with white marble.
The temple is a marble structure with a large courtyard and a checkered floor. Two statues sit inside, one of Kaila Devi and one of Chamunda Devi. In 2017 a major project to ornament the temple was carried out.
