Why devotees come here
Khajrana Ganesh Temple stands in the Khajrana area of Indore, Madhya Pradesh. It is dedicated to Ganesha, and the gate of its inner sanctum is made of silver. It is counted among the famous Hindu temples in India.
Ganesha is the main deity of this complex, and the temple is an important tourist destination of Indore. Devotees and foreign visitors come here, especially for the main festival of Vinayak Chaturthi. Legend says a local priest, Pandit Mangal Bhatt, saw the ancient idol in a dream. Legend also says the idol had been hidden in a well to keep it safe during the rule of the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
The temple was built in 1735 by Maharani Ahilyabai Holkar of the Holkar dynasty. It began as a small hut and grew over the years into a large structure. The gate and outer walls of the sanctum are made of silver, and different moods and festivals are shown on them. The eyes of the deity are made of diamonds, donated by a businessman of Indore.
