Why devotees come here
Lakshmi Narasimha Temple stands in Antarvedi village, Konaseema district, Andhra Pradesh. It is dedicated to Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy and sits where the Bay of Bengal meets the Vashista Godavari, a tributary of the Godavari.
Local tradition says villagers offered coconuts at an anthill and then dug the spot. They found a stony sculpture of Narasimha, and they built a temple there. The temple stands where the Bay of Bengal meets the Vashista Godavari, a tributary of the Godavari River.
Accounts differ on the date. One puts the building in the 15th and 16th centuries. Village history gives 1823, or Shalivahana saka 1745, as the year the temple was built. After some time the temple fell into ruin. It was later re-erected.
According to one account, the layout of the temple complex has great significance in relation to the geometry of the delta. A launch pad lets visitors land on a small island on the other side of the Godavari River.
