Why devotees come here
Sripuram, the Lakshmi Narayani Golden Temple, sits at the foot of small green hills in Vellore, Tamil Nadu. Its tower and front hall are covered in pure gold. Devotees of every faith are welcome to visit.
The temple is dedicated to Sri Lakshmi Narayani. It stands at the base of a small range of green hills at Thirumalaikodi, also called Malaikodi, near Vellore. Devotees from all religions and backgrounds are welcome to visit the complex.
The temple was built in a short span of seven years. It was inaugurated on 24 August 2007. The tower, called the vimanam, and the front hall, called the ardha mandapam, are covered in pure gold. Gold bars were converted into foils and mounted on copper by hand, and every single detail was created manually.
Sri Narayani Peedam, a charitable trust based in Vellore, built the temple. Its spiritual leader, Sri Sakthi Amma, headed the work. The official site says more than 1.5 tonnes of gold was used, in layers mounted on hand-etched copper plates. The complex is laid out as a star-shaped path, called the Sri Chakra, over 1.8 km long, in the middle of green landscape.
