Why devotees come here
Radha Madan Mohan Temple stands in Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh, on the Yamuna bank. It is one of the oldest and most revered temples of the town, and one of the most popular Goswami shrines in the state.
Legend says that Advaita Acharya found the deity of Madan Mohan at the base of an old banyan tree in Vrindavan. Mira Bai is also believed to have worshipped this deity during her stay in the town.
According to historical sources, the temple was rebuilt in 1580 under the guidance of Sanatana Goswami, by Kapur Ram Das, a trader from Multan. When Aurangzeb attacked the temples of Vrindavan and Mathura in 1670, King Jai Singh secretly moved the original idol to Jaipur overnight. A zamindar, or landowner, named Nanda Kumar Basu, from Baharu, rebuilt the shrine in 1819 on a hilltop near the Yamuna.
The temple is built in the Nagara style, in an oval shape, of red sandstone. It stands 50 feet high on the Yamuna bank near Kaliya Ghat.
