Ravechi Mata is highly venerated by the people of the Vagad region of Kutch. Devotees believe her image is self-manifested, known as Swayambhu. Rav is a village of three hamlets, Rav Moti, Rav Nani and Temple, set in an open plain. The temple stands on the bank of a large pond there and was built in 1821, in Samvat 1878 of the Hindu calendar.
Legend says an older shrine, with nine domes, was built by the Pandavas. Troops of a Babi chief are said to have destroyed it. The present temple has nine finely carved domed shrines and porches, and it stands 54 feet high with two domed porches.
Inside, a large statue of Ravechi Mata is smeared with red paint and butter, and five other images stand at her side. Opposite her, Naklank, the horse incarnation, stands on three legs on a pillar.
