Why devotees come here
Shiv Mandir Jalalpur stands on the banks of the Betwa river in Hamirpur district, Uttar Pradesh. Jalalpur was once called Choti Kashi, with a group of 108 Shiva temples, and some of its black granite shivlings survive.
Jalalpur was once called Choti Kashi, or little Kashi, and a group of 108 temples dedicated to Shiva stood here in ancient times. Most of them have been destroyed, because they were not maintained. The temple stands on the banks of the Betwa river, where there was once a major centre of business.
The shivlings that survive are made of black granite. Panchmukhi shivlings are a speciality of these Shiva temples. On the ghat stands a Hanuman temple. The district page also lists an incense-watch among the main features of the place.
Hamirpur is one of the 75 districts of Uttar Pradesh, and Hamirpur town is its headquarters. The district is part of the Chitrakoot Division, and the temple sits on the Sarila road.
