Srila Prabhupada acquired the Juhu property, now known as Hare Krishna Land, after fighting against many odds. The temple opened to the public on 14 January 1978. Its anniversary is marked on Makar Sankranti, and the 48th came on 15 January 2026.
The three-story main building has a spire, the shikhara, about a hundred feet high. Murals on the inside walls show well-known incidents from the Mahabharata epic. The temple is at its liveliest on major festivals such as Janmashtami and Diwali. Juhu Beach, a short distance from the temple, is popular with locals and tourists alike.
