Why devotees come here
Pandu Pindara Tirtha is one of the two main religious spots of Jind, in Pindara village, Haryana. The place is also called Som Tirath, and its name comes from a legend about the Pandavas.
Pandu Pindara and Ramrai are the two main religious spots of Jind, a district town in Haryana. Jind is the headquarters of the district of the same name. Pandu Pindara stands in Pindara village, and the place is also called Som Tirath. Devotees come here for a holy bath, especially during Amavasya.
Legend says the Pandavas offered pinds to their forefathers here, and the village took its name from that offering. The author Abu'l-Fazl ibn Mubarak, in his Ain-i-Akbari, mentions the Hindu temple in the nearby village of Pandu Pindara.
An older Tribune report said the site lacked drinking water and sanitation, and that the historic pond had no drainage arrangement. It described a beautification plan with 40 ghats, a community centre, an open-air theatre and drainage for the pond. A Pandu Pindara Development Committee, formed by the village panchayat, was given approval to start the work, after an intervention by the Jind deputy commissioner.
