The main building is two storeys and covers about 400 square metres. Below it lies the sanctum, and stairs lead down toward it, but the path is closed after three floors. The district page says other idols in the temple were damaged by Mughal invaders. It also says Islampur was once called Pashupati Nagar, and was renamed after the Mughal invasion.
