Why devotees come here
Sri Venugopalaswamy Temple stands at Karvetinagaram in Chittoor district, Andhra Pradesh. It is a Hindu-Vaishnavite temple where Krishna is worshipped as Venugopala, whom believers regard as the eighth incarnation of Vishnu.
Believers regard Krishna, worshipped here as Venugopala, as the eighth incarnation of Vishnu in the Dasavatharam. The temple is dedicated to him, and its worship is Hindu-Vaishnavite. Sarangapani, an early 18th century Telugu poet, wrote many songs in praise of Venugopala swamy in the Padam tradition.
King Venkataperumal of the Venkataraja dynasty built the temple. In the garbhagriha, the inner sanctum, Venugopala swamy is enshrined with his consorts Rukmini and Satyabhama at the sides of the main deity. The statues were brought from Narayanavanam Temple.
The complex also has subshrines to Rama with Sita and Lakshmana, and to Anjaneya, Parthasarathy, Renuka Parameshwari and Avanakshamma. Karvetinagaram lies in Chittoor district, one of the eight districts of the Rayalaseema region in Andhra Pradesh.
